Key Responsibilities:
Membership Engagement
Promote Chamber membership and onboard new members.
Maintain and regularly update the Chamber Member Directory.
Communications & Outreach
Manage internal and external communications, including social media (primarily Facebook), press releases, and member email updates.
Serve as the public face of the Chamber, building relationships with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders.
Resource Connection
Monitor and share relevant funding, training, and development opportunities from city, county, and state sources.
Connect members with resources that support business growth and sustainability.
Strategic Development
Research and present economic development strategies and best practices from similar rural communities.
Advocate for initiatives that promote Hillsboro as a place to live, work, and play.
Event Coordination
Organize logistics for Chamber-sponsored events, including coordination with volunteers, board members, and third-party vendors.
Example tasks: setting up Business After 5 events, placing signage for the Farmers Market, booking musicians for Music in the Park, reserving venues, etc.
Governance & Administration
Prepare and distribute agendas and minutes for monthly Chamber Board meetings.
Attend Hillsboro City Council and Room Tax Committee meetings as needed to provide updates and pursue funding opportunities.
Collaborate with the Chamber Treasurer to track membership payments and maintain accurate financial records.
Facilitate biennial nominations and elections for Chamber Board positions.
Maintain historical records and bylaws for Chamber.
Experience & Education:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Experience (paid or volunteer) in a similar economic development, organizational, marketing, tourism, or communications, or related role. Bachelorβs degree in business, marketing or related discipline.
Work Environment & Expectations:
This position reports to the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Board
Flexible and negotiable schedule; hours may vary depending on event needs.
Contract position; no benefits provided.
Must provide their own transportation and computer with internet access.
Many responsibilities can be completed remotely; candidate must be self-directed and able to work independently.
Estimated workload: 10-15 hours per week, not to exceed 780 hours annually.
Compensation: $25 per hour
